Environmental Responsibility

  • We recycle and reuse as much as we can.
  • We have local growers and suppliers, cutting down the impact of journeys.
  • We compost as much as possible.
  • We have very few open baskets, most have water retaining chambers enabling wise use of water.
  • We have a community soft fruit bed and a community orchard allowing people to pick their own food.
  • We reuse gifts from the community such as woodchip from tree surgeons.
  • We use our allotment to increase our stock of plants.
  • We reuse gifts from the community of shrubs and trees which have grown too large.
  • We have planted new hedgerows which provide habitat for birds, insects and small mammals.
  • When planting trees, we recycle cardboard by cutting out circles to place around the tree trunk in order to keep moisture in, we then cover with mulch.
  • Wooden street furniture and planters are regularly maintained to make them last.
  • We choose plant locations with particular attention to each plant’s need, thereby giving the plants the best opportunity to thrive. This also can reduce the need to water.
  • We catch rainwater on our allotment.
